Webbinarium: Tactile Language part 2 – Partners’ contribution to language development in a bodily tactile modality

How do we communicate with someone without using our vision or hearing? There are many ways for communication partners to support and help develop tactile language in a dialogue with a person with congenital deafblindness. This is the second lecture in a series of webinars during this spring. Once a month we present and discuss a chapter in the book If you can see it you can support it.

These five webinars are based on different chapter of our book If you can see it you can support it. They consist of theory, knowledge, tools, practical ideas, and tips on how to support and give the best opportunities for language development in a tactile modality, so that the person with congenital deafblindness is recognised as a human being using language.

Partners’ contribution to language development in a bodily tactile modality

Lecturer: Caroline Lindström
What does it mean to communicate with someone if we can´t use our vision and hearing? How do we transform our own communicative customs from a seeing and hearing perspective so that they match a bodily/tactile modality?  This webinar will give insights and practical tips on how we can support language development for people with congenital deafblindess. It is based on a case study, which includes Martin, a young man with congenital deafblindness, and ten of his teachers. The case study illustrates how his teachers have used different bodily/tactile strategies together with him, which have facilitated his tactile language.
The lecture is based on chapter 14 in the book If you can see it, you can support it – A book on tactile language. Prepare by reading the chapter.
